Alzheimer's charity launches TV campaign

While dementia sufferers can take steps such as wearing an Alzheimer's alert bracelet to manage their condition, no actual cure exists.

That's why the Alzheimer's Research Trust (ART) is stepping up efforts to get more funding for clinical trials with a new media campaign.

ART hopes the national TV initiative will raise awareness of dementia and encourage people to put money towards research into finding a cure.

'We're asking for people to donate just £4 a month,' said chief executive Rebecca Wood.

She said the TV campaign has been designed to 'reach out to the nation and highlight to every home the devastation that Alzheimer's causes'.

This is the first time ART has used TV to make people more aware of the condition, which affects more than 820,000 people in Britain.

However, the organisation believes research into dementia is 'seriously underfunded'.

ART recently said it gets about one-twelfth of the funding that cancer research receives.
